A Creative Reunion On Stage

This isn’t Kota and Phearnone’s first time performing together. The two previously created a notable fusion of violin and hip-hop at TEDx Portland, and Phearnone also appeared on Once In A Blue Moon, Kota’s joint album with Statik Selektah.

Reflecting on their partnership, Phearnone said, “Collaborating with Kota is refreshing. Whether in studio for the Once In A Blue Moon record or live, we have a natural musical understanding. I’m excited to bring that to the final leg of the tour.”

He added, “We’re both independent, multifaceted artists rooted in New York. Kota inspires me with his route to success—authentic music, business ventures, and a passionate fan base. Working with him proves you can keep your artistry true while thriving in this industry.”

Phearnone’s Genre-Bending Impact

Phearnone, or Shayshahn MacPherson, grew up in The Bronx and transcends musical genres. Classically trained, his career flows through Classical, Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, House, R&B, and West African traditions.

Milestones of his journey include performing at Carnegie Hall at age 12, joining Wu-Tang Clan’s The Final Chamber tour, and working alongside legends such as Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, GZA, Big Daddy Kane, Lettuce, and Erykah Badu. Phearnone has also been highlighted by The Washington Times and earned an Emmy for his string arrangements on Vote.

Brooklyn Homecoming: Tour Finale

Kota expressed his enthusiasm: “Phearnone’s talent stretches across genres but always comes back with hip-hop essence. These final performances with him are going to be unforgettable.”

“From TEDx Portland to making Once In A Blue Moon, our dynamic keeps growing. Ending our tour in Brooklyn on my birthday truly feels meaningful,” Kota said. “Phearnone’s violin brings raw energy—audiences will experience something heartfelt and truly unique.”

After touring 16 cities, the No Rap on Sunday Tour will cap off with energetic nights in Boston, D.C., Philly, and Brooklyn, staying true to the spirit of independent artistry and New York pride.
